Commercial cleaning encompasses many different jobs and fields, from janitorial work to being a member of a commercial cleaning crew. This job can be a thankless job. Many people who have never experienced being a cleaner or custodian don’t seem to understand what exactly goes into the job of commercial cleaning and custodian work. Many people will drop wrappers on the floor, spill drinks, and do other careless things and just leave the mess there, assuming that a commercial cleaner or janitor will come and pick up after them. This is not a good thought process to have, and we’ll explain why. While there can be multiple custodians on staff to clean up after people, this is not always true for every business. Some businesses only have a crew of commercial cleaners that comes in every few days or once a week to clean things up. That means that when someone drops a wrapper on the floor, it may sit there for a week before anyone comes to clean it up. In regards to a building that has regular custodians, it is rude to leave extra work for them. Many people don’t understand all of the work that a custodian or janitor has to do. They have to clean many things, not just follow around people picking up their wrappers and dirt. That makes their job unnecessarily harder. Custodians also do not tend to make a huge amount of money, so it’s best to be kind and not leave too much of a mess everywhere you go.
A good way to show that you care about commercial cleaners and custodians is to recognize National Custodial Worker’s Recognition Day, which is on October 2nd. Custodians do a lot for our buildings and places of work, so it’s important to be sure that you appreciate the custodians in your life.
